Even the most standard room can be decorated so that it resembles a bungalow on the edge of the ocean, or a yacht cabin. Moreover, this does not require enormous expenses, just a few well-chosen accessories are enough to let the freshness of the breeze and the splash of the wave into your kitchen.
Color scheme
The tones that are used to decorate the kitchen in a marine style should be close to natural. Nothing too bright and deliberate. The main ones are the colors of the sea, sand, sky, clouds, calm tones of greenery.
Additional advantage: all these colors, especially in the light version, will help expand the space, and act soothingly.
Blue tones and sea tones are considered cold, so they are best suited for a kitchen that overlooks the south side.
Finish
Marine interior kitchen, as a rule, does not require complex technical solutions.
- Floor
On the floor, most often laid ordinary boards, better aged, so that they resemble the deck of an old ship.
But if you show fiction and imagination, the floors can be turned into a unique interior decoration. To do this, you need to make niches in the floor, and build mini-compositions on them on the marine theme.
For compositions, pebbles, sea sand, corals, shells, shells, small decorative anchors and chains can be used. On top of each niche is closed with a particularly durable glass. This looks especially impressive if backlighting is provided in each of the niches.
- Walls
The walls can be decorated with wood, giving the impression that you are in the cabin, or covered with bleached stucco, as is customary on the sea coast.
You can create a marine kitchen design by laying out a mosaic panel depicting a sailboat or scenes from underwater life.
- Ceiling
The ceiling can also be wood-paneled and equipped with decorative beams between which ropes, fishing nets or anchor chains are stretched. On the anchor chain, a ship-style chandelier can hang from the ceiling.
Furniture
For the chosen style, a bit rough wooden furniture is suitable, unpainted and slightly aged. It should not shine, on the contrary - dullness will indicate the patina of time, so much appreciated by interior designers.
Wicker furniture, as well as baskets of willow twigs, will also look good. A very stylish decoration of the kitchen can be a ottoman made of thick rope twisted into a “reel”. Such a “coil”, only taller, can become the basis for the glass top of the dining table.
Accessories and decor
The marine design of the kitchen uses mainly natural materials, as well as glass and brass. Panels and covering materials from jute and sisal will also come in handy.
- The marine interior of the kitchen will help to create shells brought from vacation, dried starfish, pebbles from your favorite beach and other items that you found in the sea or picked up on the shore while on vacation. Place them on the open or glazed shelf of the kitchen cabinet so that they are visible.
- Large sinks can be placed in decorative niches or on window sills.
- Small pebbles, shells peeled to nacre, small pieces of blue tiles will help to create a marine kitchen design - they can be beautifully laid on the usual standard facades of an old kitchen, immediately transforming it.
- Small shells come in handy in order to decorate the frames for mirrors or photographs, or even lay out a small panel in a marine style.
- On the table you can put a model of a yacht or a ship, place a round-shaped mirror on the wall in a brass frame - let it look like a porthole in a cabin.
- Various items of "marine" purpose - binoculars, sextants, telescopes, compasses, pieces of rope or ropes rolled into a bay will serve as wonderful decorative elements for a marine-style kitchen.
- You can add the romance of the sea and in simpler ways - changing dishes. White plates with blue rims, or blue ones with white will remind sailor collars and vests.
- Blue dishes, especially decorated with images of fish and sea animals, immediately create a certain mood. This option is especially suitable for those who strive for a healthy diet and limit themselves to food: the blue color of the dishes reduces appetite.
- The marine interior of the kitchen is logically complemented by blinds made of bamboo or light wood. Window curtains may resemble sails - rough unbleached linen in this case will do just fine.
- Small curtains in blue tones with a white simple pattern will give home coziness.
- You can divide the zones in the kitchen with the help of decorative curtains made of long threads, on which shells, large beads resembling pearls, pieces of cork or wood sanded by the sea are collected.
- Of the fabrics, linen and cotton are preferred, either unpainted or gray-blue, with a rough canvas weave. Pillows for a kitchen sofa made of these materials can have marine symbols, ship images, or simple geometric patterns in blue and white as a decor.
