Style features
Most people have a different understanding of modernity, believing that if the style of the interior is not classic, then by default it becomes "modern", that is, modern. But the catch is that this trend originated in the 19th century, and popular trends at that time were significantly different from current ones. To avoid confusion, we will consider the traditional concept of modernity and try to figure out what is typical for it today:
- The interior is characterized by smooth lines, bends and asymmetry.
- Nature had a tremendous influence on the followers of Art Nouveau: floral design, floral patterns and animal ornaments are present in the design.
- The use of natural materials is a priority - this applies to both decoration and furniture with textiles.
- This style can be called architectural - arches, arches and high windows will perfectly fit into such an interior.
- For all its decorativeness, Art Nouveau, having undergone some changes, remains functional.
Color spectrum
Art Nouveau in the interior of the bedroom has a neutral, calm palette. Used brown, peach, creamy tones. White and gray are not excluded. Soft, discreet shades visually expand the space and help convey the flexibility of the lines.
The bedroom should be designed in tones that soothe and tune in to sleep. Vivid shades are rarely used here: only as barely noticeable strokes.
The colors used should be in harmony with each other, not contradict or break out of the general gamut of the bedroom. Shades of black are appropriate, giving the Art Nouveau magical notes, ashen-blue and muted green tones. They should smoothly flow one into another, only occasionally forming contrasts. A small room should be decorated in cream and wood tones.
Materials and finishes
Art Nouveau has virtually no textured surfaces: it is impossible to find coarse brick or concrete. The walls are evenly painted in calm colors, serving as a neutral backdrop for furniture and decor. It is not necessary to choose a single color: they can be combined, highlighting a particular area. Sometimes the walls are lined with wood panels in light natural shades.
An unobtrusive floral ornament is also acceptable, therefore, wallpaper with a pattern is sometimes used to design a bedroom in modern style. But plastic, an abundance of metal and ceramics should be avoided. The same applies to ceilings - they should serve as a decoration of the bedroom, so stucco molding, as well as two-tiered streamlined designs, are actively used in modernity.
The floor of the bedroom should not become an accent of the interior, therefore, a high-quality laminate under a tree or parquet is used as a floor covering. The shade of the floor should harmoniously fit into the situation, so it is chosen a few tones darker than the walls, or vice versa merges with them.
Linoleum, as an unnatural material, is difficult to fit into the decor of a traditional bedroom.
Furniture selection
Remembering that Art Nouveau decoration is closely intertwined with functionality, it is worth choosing bizarre furniture with curly elements, not without convenience. It is better if the bed and the rest of the suite are made of the same wood species, especially if the headboard is carved or curly. However, this recommendation can be omitted if the bed is selected with a soft headboard. On either side of the bed are usually low bedside tables.
The space of the room is not cluttered with furniture, therefore, following the principles of modernity, even a small bedroom looks more spacious. The design, striving for smooth lines, visually unites all the elements, folding them into a harmonious composition.
In the Art Nouveau style, not only natural wood is appreciated, but also glass: it can be a bedside table, cabinet facades, mirrors. An interesting solution is stained glass inserts on windows and doors. Metal is not used so actively, but is present as additional elements.
The cabinet, as a rule, is selected bulky, and placed in the far corner of the room. Its facades can be decorated with floral ornaments.
Lighting
The choice of material for modern style lighting fixtures is not so important - in the first place are their decorative and utilitarian functions. The shape of the fixtures should work to maintain the style of the bedroom. Suitable products from porcelain, metal, glass or wood.
In addition to practical spotlights in the bedroom, elegant ornate chandeliers and wall sconces with soft diffusing light are used. Table lamps with lampshades and floor lamps are appropriate.
Textiles and Decor
The design of the bedroom in modern style does not imply the presence of a large amount of textile. Curtains, bedspreads and pillows are selected only practical, from natural dense fabrics.
The shades of the curtains and carpet decorating the floor are not much different from the surroundings and are not an accent. The design of textiles welcome concise and flowing patterns.
Accessories for the bedroom in the Art Nouveau style are selected as carefully as the whole environment. Elegant glass or gold-plated vases, paintings depicting girls or nature, rounded and carved mirror frames are popular.
