Which slats are better to choose?
Before installing wooden battens on the wall in the interior, you must select the material from which they will be made.
- Pine - the most inexpensive and affordable wood. It is rarely affected by fungus or insects. However, the preparation will have to tinker with: pine requires impregnation from moisture and alkali treatment before applying varnish.
- Beech is more expensive, but stronger than pine. Of the disadvantages is the possibility of decay, therefore, requires processing with a special composition.
- Oak is a durable and strong, but at the same time expensive elite breed. The oak massif is resistant to moisture, insects and mold, therefore, surface treatment will be sufficient for it.
- MDF with veneer is a strong and non-deformable alternative. Due to the glue in the composition, such a material is not the most environmentally friendly. In addition, even veneered MDF looks different from natural wood.
- Metal is the most durable option of all. It is more expensive than wood and is less common. It can be of any color, including with imitation of a tree structure. Gray painted lamellas look great in the interior in the style of minimalism and hi-tech, black in the loft, white in scandi, and colored in modern or provence.
Bars can be of any width and thickness. The size of the section is selected based on the goals and sizes of the room: the smaller the room, the thinner the boards should be and vice versa.
Tip: spliced wooden buffels are practically not deformed, and in terms of environmental friendliness and beauty they are not inferior to solid ones.
Use cases
There are many options for using wooden battens: to emphasize, to decorate the ceiling, to zone a spacious room, to protect the staircase.
Wall decoration with decorative battens
In the living room, wall slats are mounted behind the sofa or opposite it, in the bedroom they can serve as the head, and in the kitchen - highlight the dining area.
Decorative slats are installed in two ways: on glue or on the frame. The first option is suitable if the panel is used as decoration and furniture and appliances will not be mounted on it. Step-by-step instruction:
- Treat the wall with a mold primer, apply a decorative coating.
- Saw boards 1 cm smaller than necessary for free expansion of the tree.
- Coat the lamellas with a protective compound, paint or stain.
- Apply glue to the lamellas, attach.
If you plan to hang a TV set, heavy paintings or furniture on a rack, fasten them to the frame:
- Treat the wall with a mold primer, apply a decorative coating.
- Collect the crate from the bars and treat with a protective compound.
- Saw off the bars in size, process them.
- Attach the buffels to the crate with screws or nails.
- Paint or stain the finished structure.
Decoration ceiling
Decorating the ceiling with buffers allows you to hide irregularities, hide wiring and simplify the installation of fixtures. In addition, such an original finish changes the geometry of the room. If you place the boards across in a narrow room, it will become wider.
The installation procedure for the ceiling is the same as described above: surface and wood processing, installation of the lathing, fastening of the rails themselves.
Zoning the room with slats
Wooden partitions are the best suited for zoning through the space: they transmit light, while separating one part of the room from another. With the help of decorative slats, you can separate the kitchen and dining room, highlight an office or bedroom in the studio, and distinguish between a bath and a toilet.
How do they look in the interior?
A lot of completed projects show that buffels are an excellent solution for decorating apartments and houses. We have selected options for decorating the wall with slats and photos of these interiors.
Reiki in the interior of the living room
In the interior of the living room, rails are installed on the wall or used for zoning.
Shelves, paintings, flower pots are attached to the sheathed wall behind the sofa or left empty. If opposite the sofa - hang the TV, and hide the wires between the lamellas themselves.
The studio uses kitchen-living room zoning, separating the kitchen and dining areas. Another option is a dedicated space for a bedroom or study in a small apartment.
Reiki in the interior of the kitchen
The best place for buffels in the kitchen is the dining area. The rack wall draws attention and highlights the area of food intake - whether it is a dining table or a bar counter. The rails with built-in backlight, slightly extending to the ceiling, look advantageous.
Another option for using lamellas in the interior of the kitchen is the ceiling. With their help, hide irregularities, wiring and improve the geometry of the room.
Reiki in the bedroom interior
Professional designers like to use boards at the head of the bed - at the same time they can cover the entire wall, or you can create a structure along the width of the bed. Both options look stylish.
If you are against classical solutions and forms in the interior - set the buffers asymmetrically, on one side only.
Wooden slats in the children's room
The use of rails in the nursery is possible in many ways. Separate the recreation and work / games areas, arrange a place behind the bed, decorate the ceiling.
If you place the slats on the desktop horizontally, between them you can install shelves or use them as roof rails.
Photo in the interior of the bathroom
For a bathroom, wood must be carefully treated with moisture-proofing compounds.
Buffels are used to separate the toilet and shower, visually highlight the sink or decorate the ceiling.
Examples in the interior of the balcony
The most simple, inexpensive and fastest way to decorate the walls on the balcony is lamellas. You can cover them with all the space, but you can emphasize.
Hang flowers on buffels to create a sense of the city garden at home.
Hallway Design Ideas
In the corridor, buffels are not only beautiful, but also a functional element. Hang hooks, a mirror, and shelves on them. Thus, you will get a stylish and inexpensive entrance group a few steps from the door.
If the hallway is long and narrow, install decorative slats horizontally around or on the front door. In other cases, mount vertically.
