Things to consider when disguising a battery
Before proceeding to disguise, you need to know several important nuances:
- First of all, you need to understand that with any method, heat loss will occur.
- Convection air flows should not be fenced with anything, only in this way it will be possible to maintain uniform room heating, and windows will not fog up.
- For various emergency situations, it is worthwhile to think in advance about free access to threaded connections and a radiator - this can be a window or a removable structure, for example, a door with hinges.
- For repairs, a crane, thermal head and other elements of the heating system should remain in good accessibility.
The best ways to beautifully hide radiators
There are several ways to hide batteries, in this section we will consider the most popular and effective ones.
Hinged screen
It is by far the most practical and popular method, most often this design is created from metal and has its advantages:
- simple installation;
- heat exchange remains the same;
- can be made with rounded corners, which reduces the risk of injury.
Glass screens
The screen made of glass will be an interesting and stylish solution, especially for those who choose minimalism or modern style in interior design. Photo printing or various patterns can be applied to glass, but this method is not a budget option. Installation is carried out on a screw holder, but holes will have to be drilled in the wall. However, the radiator will be stylishly protected. This option will fit into any interior.
Box Screens
Box screens are a great option for decorating radiators.
- They will help to completely hide the battery.
- The box can become an interior item.
- Erans are easy to mount, easy to care for.
- Protect from burns or other injuries.
Curtains to the floor
Do not forget about the most popular way to hide batteries - just hang them with opaque or translucent curtains. Using this method over time, you yourself will even forget that there are pipes and a radiator behind the curtains. The main thing is to choose curtains that will look harmonious and not show everyone with their appearance that there is something behind them.
Wall color
How to hide the heating battery on the wall, if other designs are "prohibited." One way, paint it with the same color as the wall.
Wood frame
The tree will create comfort and warmth in the apartment, and the disguise of the battery will be elegant and beautiful. This option is for those who equip their home in an eco-style, using natural materials. Such ways to hide batteries can be used as a stand for home decor.
Built in furniture
Another common way than closing the heating battery is furniture made to order, or built-in furniture (shelves, cabinets, folding tables, seats).
Hide radiator with furniture
Arrange furniture, such as a chair or desk, so that it covers the battery. A cast-iron battery is not attractive to many, but furniture can hide it.
Replace with a designer model
For those who do not want to invent anything, unique design methods have been developed to hide batteries that already initially have a beautiful appearance and simply do not want to hide them.
Original ideas
There are many creative ideas that can turn batteries into a decorative element:
- Forged products
- Hide the radiator with a cloth
- Painting and decoupage of batteries
Hide with drywall
I would also like to talk about how you can hide batteries with drywall. Immediately it is worth noting that the material has its drawbacks, but the drywall design is still very popular for repairs.
- The material is environmentally friendly, while it is not subject to combustion.
- On the market you can find several varieties of this material.
- This masking option is budgetary, and installation can be done in different ways, as it suits you.
- Also, it is drywall that will allow the landlord to invent any design that will help not only close the pipes and battery, but also make additional decorative elements.
Minus lies in the fact that drywall is afraid of external influences, with careless actions, it is easy enough to punch or pierce it. And if a breakdown or leak occurs, then the entire finish will have to be changed again, but this material is cheap.
DIY plasterboard installation
In order to close the battery, you need to measure it, and then buy metal profiles and other additional products.
- What materials are needed: gypsum plasterboard 12 mm, metal profiles 27x28 and 60x27, drywall screws and metal, dowel-nails 6x40 in size, construction sickle, perforated corners.
- Instruments: screwdriver, puncher, scissors for metal, stationery knife, construction stapler, pencil, tape measure, construction level.
Attention, for the construction of a drywall box there is an important requirement: it is necessary that the windowsill go beyond the radiator by at least 3 centimeters.
Work order:
-
Installation of the frame. The profile should be mounted on three adjacent sides: floor, wall, window sill. Press the metal profile 27x28 with your hand to the base, drill a hole with a puncher immediately in the profile and in the wall. Screw the dowel-nail into the hole with a screwdriver. At the bottom of the windowsill, a profile of metal 27x28 is mounted on the screws; the length of the screws should not be more than the thickness of the windowsill. Next, you can put jumpers from a metal profile 60x27.
-
The choice of the size of the lattice. This hole must be made slightly smaller than the size of the lattice. You can focus on three recommended sizes: 60x120, 60x90 or 60x60.
-
Drywall installation. Plasterboard sheets can be cut with a clerical knife. Tighten with a screwdriver.
-
Mounting corners. They must be fixed at the corners with a construction stapler, or attached to gypsum plaster. A sickle should be applied to all the seams of the drywall box and covered with plaster. Before painting or wallpapering, the plasterboard box must be puttied, cleaned with sandpaper and greased with a primer.
Masking heating pipes
It doesn’t matter whether it is an apartment or a house, a bedroom or a kitchen, everywhere I would like to have a good repair. The questions immediately arise: how beautifully to hide the heating pipes and how can this be done with minimal cost and maximum efficiency? In this case, the method of disguise should be really invisible and imperceptible, fitting into the room.
The pipe can be hidden inside the wall, and it can also be closed to the floor.Remember that the old heating system should not be hidden in this way, this option is possible after a complete update of all elements.
Box on the frame
It is best done from wood, plastic or drywall. Do not place heating pipes close to each other, there should be at least three centimeters between the duct and the pipe.
Hide behind the decor
Decoration of pipes with various options, for example, wrap with a jute rope. But remember that this reduces heat transfer. Many hosts decorate pipes with flowers; this can be done using bamboo with leaves. Only fantasy should work here, even an old pipe can look completely different.
Wall color
The easiest and most practical method is to paint the batteries or riser in the color of the walls, while the heat generation will not decrease.
Hide under the baseboard
A good invention was the floor skirting board, in which you can easily hide batteries located horizontally and low to the floor.
Photo in the interior of the rooms
Kitchen
The kitchen is an ideal room in which all the ways to hide the batteries will be practical and convenient. If the room is small, then you can hide the battery with a beautiful tabletop or make a folding table, which, if necessary, will be displayed.
Plants of metal-plastic constructions offer a large selection of beautiful large window sills that imitate stone, wood and other materials. The modern window sill does not break under the weight, is not afraid of external factors, it is easy to care for, wipe, it is not afraid of scratches and so on. This way you can hide any type of battery, including cast iron.
Living room
If the radiator is in a niche, then a wide window sill will help create a working area.
On a designed wooden box you can put souvenirs, vases or flowers in pots. You can also close the unsightly batteries in the living room with blackout curtains.
Bedroom and nursery
In the interior of the bedroom and the nursery, the batteries can be used as another place to relax, a countertop for decorative elements or a workplace.
Bathroom
You can hide the pipes in the bathroom using a louvre door, plastic grilles or a cabinet with opening doors.
We hide the heating batteries with the help of wooden, glass or plastic screens.
Hallway
For radiators in the halls, glass screens or wooden boxes are suitable. In a small room, close the battery only in terms of practicality. It can be a cabinet for storing shoes, or the battery will become a small coffee table where keys and other necessary elements will be folded.
Examples in different styles of interior
Modern style
For a modern style or hi-tech style and minimalism, any material made of wood, glass (glass panels) or metal is suitable.
Classic style
It is recommended to use natural materials, it is better to opt for a wooden grate.

Wooden lattices in bright colors will be appropriate to look in the Scandinavian style.
Loft
